Mocked in a 1958 travel parody called "Gateway to the South", Balham has been overlooked in favour of more famous nearby areas such as Clapham or Brixton. However, after years of anonymity, it’s suddenly coming into the focus of attention with London renters realizing the great number of benefits offered by this calm and relaxed suburban area; possibly helped by the fact it was voted one of “Britain’s best places to live” for the previous two years by the Sunday Times!
