Welcome to Greenwich

Time spent in Greenwich these days might feel more like a day trip to the seaside than time spent in the centre of a maritime world. However, this town’s history is indisputably linked to the river and is one of only four London boroughs with Royal status. When the Old Royal Naval College became the University of Greenwich, a prosperous community of students replaced the young maritime officers that used to live here once. Nowadays, a stream of weekend day-trippers combined with families and younger residents give Greenwich a distinctly laid back, happy vibe. Sir Christopher Wren determinedly stamped his mark in Greenwich by designing the College, St Alfege Church and The Royal Observatory. This observatory is famous for being the mark of the legendary Meridian Line; the place where time begins and ends. Greenwich is a special place for Londoners and is home to proud residents.
