If you want to sample the true character of London's East End, Bethnal Green is a good place to start- the area is a real slice of London life- Multicultural, lively and unpolished. Bethnal Green is an increasingly trendy area and one that is said to be the next Shoreditch. As a creative hub it's popular with young artistic types. There is plenty of edgy entertainment to be had, a particular favourite being the Bethnal Green Working Mens club which puts on a range of fun events including burlesque nights and ironic discos. The fact that it's only 15 minutes from oxford circus on the central line means that it's never going to be an inexpensive area of London, however the shortage of shops and abundance of street markets means it’s less desirable to families and the average Londoner, which helps keep a lid on rents (for now).
